NSDF25: Making It!

NSDF 2025 will be the ultimate place to be for ALL theatre makers aged 16-26 to meet, create and collaborate.

From the 22nd-26th April at Curve Leicester the festival will be jam-packed with industry masterclasses, insightful workshops, mentoring, networking, epic performances and the space to create. This year it’s a week to make it. And by the end of it you’ll be equipped with all the tools, the people and the know-how to make your own work and, with it, your own career. All culminating in producing, developing, performing in or creating on your own showcase on the final night.

THEATREMAKER (ACTOR, WRTIER, PERFORMERS) PARTICIPANTS  (aged 16-26)

Across the week you will work with world class practitioners to develop your craft. You will meet new people and work together to develop a brand-new piece of work (in progress) in a week. You will learn from our associates, each other and invited guests to further your development into the industry.

Throughout the week you will have the opportunity to work with world class, industry experts who will share how they made it happen in their own careers, through workshops, masterclasses and panel discussions on their own practice and area of expertise. You’ll have the chance to make your own work through these sessions in everything from building your own theatre company, to performing, marketing - the whole works. Each day you’ll put all of this into practice through the production of your own showcase. Collaborating with each other and our associates to knock it out of the park!

For those of you interested in technical theatre and production, you will get to work with our amazing technical team to develop your skills by learning on the job and taking part in workshops from brilliant technical facilitators. You will bring your development and expertise to the final production as well as all of the performances along the way.

TECHNICAL TEAM PARTICIPANTS

As a member of the Technical Team, you help produce the festival!

Professional technicians will support you throughout the week, guiding you in how to handle all the technical needs of a production. Once trained and empowered, you’ll have the responsibility for ensuring the shows go off without a hitch!

There will be workshops, opportunities to assist with work in progress shows, and of course be able to watch the festival performances that you helped make happen! It will be a full-on learning experience like no other.

We will be hosting a range of workshops covering…

Lighting and Sound – We’ll cover creative and technical design, different equipment and programming skills for both the disciplines of lighting and sound.

Building a Fringe venue – how to read plans, work with deck, scaffold, drapes, and learning about non-traditional theatre spaces. Plus, all members of our professional technician team are Edinburgh or Adelaide Fringe veterans, so will be armed and ready to answer all Fringe related questions!

Stage management – Stage managers are the angels that guide us, we’ll help with mastering their magical tips and tricks.

Communication – People are scary, especially in the high-stress world of creating theatre, you cannot have too many communication skills under your belt!

The whole festival is an opportunity to learn ‘on the job’ and ask questions, we will host many mini workshops and training sessions as the festival runs at the request of the participants, this festival is for you!

No experience is necessary to apply to be a technical participant! However, if you do have some experience, whether at

your local theatre or at university or college, we will make sure you are challenged to do more, learn more and try something new.
